Israeli Reveals Their Tank-Defense System of the Future
A small team of Israeli researchers is putting the final touches on what Israel says is a major game changer in tank defense system: a miniature anti-missile system!
The Israelis have come up with a tank-defense system that detects incoming projectiles and shoots them down before they reach the armored vehicles.
The director of military info Website globalsecurity.org said, "I think people will be watching the Israelis roll this thing out and see if they can get the hang of it."
It is called the Trophy system and if successful, the "Trophy" system could radically alter the balance of power if the country goes to war again against Hezbollah guerrillas in neighboring Lebanon or Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
There will be a series of so-called "active defense" systems and this Trophy system is the first system to become operational. Such systems aim to neutralize threats before they strike the tank.
In the past, tanks have relied on thick layers of armor or "reactive" technology that weakens an incoming rocket upon impact by setting off a small explosion. The Trophy system is developed by a company called Rafael and they said the system has been in the works for years, but the bitter experience of Israel's 2006 war against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon gave the project a greater push. It is so powerful that it can stop any anti-tank rocket in the formidable Hezbollah arsenal and it can be something that perhaps will be seen in computer, console or flash games.
Is this another sign of the end of the world coming closer, as predicted by some people that there will be war using weapons of mass destruction in Israel? I really hope not though...
